I have conflicting info regarding Observation codes for subsequent days. Our providers see patien's that are Observatrion and have been for 2 days. One article from CMS said that if that is the case then the Physician should code a 99224-99226. Then another article from WPS states that only the initial physician can bill 99224-99226 but it aslo states in the same article that the CMS decision they were citing didn't take into account the 99224-99226 codes.
I understand that the admit and discharge to and from Observation can only be billed by one provider, but what if the patient stays in for two subsequent days?? Our providers usually follow up on these patient's on a daily basis.
