An i5 would be considered base requirements (although I'm running Core2 based Xeons just fine). You should probably at least get a basic video card, as on board graphics can cause issues and usually use system RAM.
It will be difficult to properly recommend a system for you without knowing what you intend to use. Will you be working with a lot of VI's, or mostly tracking audio? How many tracks do you foresee using, and any cpu intensive plugins?
