Pro Tools 12.3.1 on Early 2008 Mac Pro???

Okay so last night I upgraded to 12.3.1 and it seemed like everything was rocking. I had something like 60 tracks with 6-8 Avid channel strips on each track at 1024 buffers (just testing it's power of course.) with something like a 26-30% CPU performance. I even took it down to 32 Buffers and it performed decent minus a few CPU spikes.

Then when I put it back to 1024 it started acting like it did before the upgrade. CPU Spikes and error messages. It's like it's filling up some memory cache or something and then starts to stutter in performance.

Anybody have this problem or know what could be the culprit? Logic and Studio One 3 runs excellent on my machine.

I have 8Gb of ram and record to a 7200RPM scratch disk. Operating system is El Capitan (which runs better for me than Yosemite)
