Strange 12.3 Video Session Issue

Hey everybody,

Having a bit of a problem with...well, it's honestly been a bit hard to pinpoint. I have recently changed my Hackintosh system over to Windows 7, and overall it's running beautifully. Sessions that always gave me trouble in OS X play great, everything is running better than ever. Friday I upgrade to 12.3, and I really feel like it's even more stable and faster, things are great. Saturday night I kinda push the system, writing and mixing a song at low buffers just to see how it can, lots of VI's, everything's great.

Last night I open up a post session, and it opens fine, but when I go to play, it says "Pro Tools cannot initialize ZenStudio ASIO. Make sure it's configured correctly." After 30 seconds, it freezes up and Pro Tools stops responding. After a restart, I open up the CPU intensive session from the night before, it opens and plays back fine, I open the post session, exact same behavior, same message, same crash. Nothing in the Windows error log to explain why. I search for the message, do a lot of audio hardware troubleshooting (although I didn't think that was my issue, since every other session opens fine). I also trashed prefs, databases, etc through Trasher. Finally I created a new session, and imported session data. Boom, works flawlessly, performing better than ever, just like all the other sessions I've used in 12. Work for about 2 hours, then shut down for the night. Go back to it tonight, now the new session is doing the exact same thing! Other sessions open up no problem, just not this one. The same session opens up fine in 12.3 installed on my MacBook Air.

I have now trashed everything, reinstalled Pro Tools, isolated plugins, re-enabled the onboard hardware to ensure that Windows wasn't changing the samplerate from 48khz (which wasn't an issue with any of my other sessions, most of which are at 48khz), moved the files to different drives, recreated the session, which helped for...I guess through a shutdown? Then right back to square one. The only thing I can think of thats different about this session than any other that I have to try, is that it uses the video engine. I tried turning off desktop composition as recommended if you have a weak video card (I have a GT430 video card), no help. One thing I've noticed is that the system usage window always indicates 0% usage throughout all of this. Never moves.

Thank god it opens on the laptop, and since it's running better in 12 anyway, it's actually usable whereas 11 gave me overloads all the time. But what the hell is going on with the PC? I'd say it's my crappy GPU, except the performance was great after I created the new session and imported session data. Lag free, wonderful. I'm at a loss. Anyone have any ideas?

Windows 7 SP1, all current updates. Pro Tools 12.3 (fresh install), currently only RX4, FabFilter Pro-Q2, Avid Space and Reverb One, Virtual Mix Rack, and the UAD bundle (not even all of them, just the 15 or so I actually have) installed. Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Motherboard REV1.3 Bios F10, 32GB of Corsair Memory, Intel Sandy Bridge 2600K 3.4GHz Processor, Zotac GT430 Passive GPU, UAD-2 Octo. Every other session except this one plays back without a single problem. And the symptoms are exactly the same between the original session and the recreated one. It opens, and I can click on things, and generally just have the session open indefinitely until I click play, and then it gives me the "Cannot Initialize" error and crashes 30secs-1 min after. Oh except when it crashes, if you look in Task Manager Pro Tools.exe never closes, nor does its Quicktime thread. Hitting end process on either of these does nothing. Sometimes the video window of the session will stay open.

Should I disable the GPU in the Mixing Preferences? Increase the Play Start Latency? Switch over to the integrated GPU and see if that works? I feel like the video part has to be the issue, since even this one doesn't work, every audio/MIDI only session is fine.

Thanks for any help.
