You'll 'own' whatever version you buy just as much as you ever did, you just won't have access to any updates unless you're covered by one of the new plans. It's that simple, really. You'll essentially be frozen at whatever version number you have now, if you don't stay current with an annual plan.
You'll get a new single license that works for 10, 11, and 12.
If you're entitled to free upgrade, then it's kind of a no brainer.
