I really need some help. I have Pro Tools 7.1 LE MBox. I have a great deal of music I've been working on for years. I've recently had some years I didn't work on it due to a death in the family that zapped much of my desire to create. So, I just recently started getting back into this and to my dismay the motherboard on my Dell gave out suddenly. I have to get a new computer. Problem is, all of my music that I've been working on, for too many years, is in the old hard drive. Since I have to get a new computer, it makes sense to upgrade my Pro Tools software. Since I have an older version of Pro Tools and it won't work on a newer computer, how do I get the music I've been working on in Pro Tools 7.1 into either Pro Tools 11 or 12 in a new computer? Plus, Much of the music still has Audio Suite and/or Native Instruments plug-ins presently plugged in to songs. Since the Audio Suite are not supported on 11 or 12, should I upgrade to 10? And is it even possible? Or, am I going to have to buy a whole new Pro Tools software and computer but lose all my music? Not to mention the expense of all of this is not really even possible right now, so I am hoping I can somehow just upgrade in a new/used computer. I don't know what will work with what at this point.

Hey all, I am currently running PT LE 8.0.5 with a 003 console on a Macbook OS 10.5.8 and 4G RAM. (A bit archaic I know but I cannot afford a complete system upgrade). I would like to update my OS to 10.6, and if I do do I need to uninstall and reinstall my PT software?

New waves central crashing Pro Tools 11

I've just installed the latest version of Waves Central, which forced me to re-install all my waves plugins, and now Pro Tools is crashing when I start to use some Waves plugins in a session.

Does someone else experience this problem?

I'm running Pro Tools 11.3.1 on a PC with Windows 7 installed on an SSD.

I tried to go back to a previous version of Waves Central but the installation always fails at the beginning...

Help With Outputs - Audition Path

I'm having an issue with my outputs on Protools 11.3.1. I want to be able to use my entire interface outputs to run individual tracks or stems through.

However, when I use outputs 1-2 for, say, a drum stem, the entire daw session is running through those channels. I've tried changing my audition paths and my default output bus and it's still unchanged. I've read through the manual on this subject as well and it doesn't say much regarding this.

Am I limited to only using 14 outputs? Or is there a way that I can use 1-2 without having to hear the entire session through them?

Help With Outputs - Audition Path

Synth sound design guys. Making this sine wave pluck.

Not sure if this is the right forum for it but I know there are tons of sound design guys on the DUC so I figured I could probably find some tips towards making this pluck.

First off I know the sound design is generally simple, Sine maybe smooth square wave, pluck envelope, reverb, delay. But I seem to be missing something.

I cant quite get the nice blend of the percussiveness with the softness of the pluck.

Any tips on how you would go about making this?

Its the soft organ type pluck playing chords in the following songs.

Apple TV conflict

I've searched for this and could not find it, so forgive me if there is already a thread for this elsewhere.
I'm having a conflict with Apple TV. The only way to get around it for me has been to go unplug it up in the house (which is a bummer for my kids). It shows up in my in my hardware Audio MIDI setup as a device, but it is not under the Pro Tools Aggregate devices. It is not selected for input or output, yet Apple TV still shows as the ONLY peripheral device under the Hardware Setup window.
I'm attaching a screenshot.

Besides going upstairs and pulling the power out of the Apple TV, anyone know how to just block Apple TV on my Mac Pro studio computer?

I am watching this thread with interest since I am running a 002 console on PT 10.

I just purchased a PT 10-11-12 perpetual license. But I need to upgrade my computer like you before I activate it.

I cant afford to buy a new Mac Pro. or iMac so I am watching this with much interest.

Need new mac...

Android Pad Controller?

Hi All,

(Apologies if this is a duplicate post - I can't locate the original).

Would like to try a pad type controller for PT 11.3.1 (will probably upgrade to 12.x by the end of the year).

I am a strictly Windows user (WIN 7) - no Apple/iOS devices anywhere, and I don't want to get involved with iTunes for copying data from the iPad to my WIN 7 machine.

Anybody know if I can use a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Android) type pad to use V-Control Pro with PT 11.3.1?

Also, any feelings on optimal size? I prefer a smaller (8 in.) tablet for portability, but I'm wondering if the smaller screen size would make it a bit cramped for swiping faders and panning, etc.

Weird graphic visual glitch when changing all track heights together

Has anyone seen this strange visual glitch before? I'm getting this in PT 12.3.1 but have had it on earlier versions too.

It only seems to occur when I change all track heights together. As you can see, some of the track heights are changed, but not all of the track info is resized along with it!

Weird graphic visual glitch when changing all track heights together

Help for Newbie

Hi Everyone, I wonder if anyone can please advise me. I'm new to Pro Tools 12.3 and using it for audiobook narration. I'm currently recording a book and the editor has asked for mono wav files. My Pro Tools crashed the other day and the helpdesk reset everything and erased the defaults I'd had set up by the engineer. I see that it's set to bounce output 1-2 stereo the other choices are audio output 1 mono or audio output 2 mono. I have Interleaved checked. I don't have mono summed checked. Should I be choosing output Mono 1? I just want to end up with 1 file wav mono to be sent for editing. Thanks in advance for any help or info you can give me. I'm finding Pro Tools very difficult to navigate because most of the info I find is really for music etc. Kind Regards, Daniela

PT 11.x.x compatibility with El Capitan

I've seen some posts that speculate that Avid will not test PT 11.x.x. for compatibility with El Capitan (OS X 10.11). I hope this is not true. I am not a professional musician or sound engineer. PT 11.3.1.3 works fine on Yosemite for my purposes. I don't want to spend the time or money to upgrade to PT 12. On the other hand, I would like to upgrade my MacBook to El Capitan.

I hope that Avid is not trying to force me to upgrade to PT 12 by not including PT 11.x.x. in its compatibility testing with El Capitan.

Anyone know Avid's plans?

My eleven rack won't record at 44,100Hz

Hey guys!

I can't seem to get any sound from my 11rack when setting the clock to 44,100Hz independently nor through USB i just get a high pitched sound and pops and clicks every now and then, any other sample rate and everything is played fine.
I worked with 48,000Hz so far but i really want to reduce latency and i've read that lower sample rate could help this.

Firmware up to date and tried with a variety of drivers.

audio clip volume changed on import

Hello,

I am re-mixing a project with a PT10-HD Omni system. It was originally recorded in Cubase. The Cubase files are 24bit, 96kHz.

Upon importing the files into PT (set to 24 bit 96kHz), some of the audio clips are about 7 dB lower in volume than they were in Cubase. (I checked by bringing them back into Cubase)

In the attached jpg, the original file is on the left. The file on the right is it after it was imported into PT.

Any suggestions as to what I can do so the the audio clips don't change volume upon import into PT?

Video play back with multiple print tracks

PT 12.2.1 HD
Video via a Black Magic card.

If I try to print 5.1 NDME stems simultaneously to audio tracks, the video play back is reduced to something like one frame per second. If I just print one stem at a time the video runs OK.

Is changing HW Buffer (currently 1024) or Disk Playback (currently 32GB) likely to help, and if not is there anything else that will?

RX 4 Spectral Repair

I'm working on a rig that is new to me running PT12.2.1 and RX4, and there's no one technical to ask here ... [sighs]

RX4 plugins are available in the AudioSuite drop down menu but Spectral Repair is not listed. Nor can I find it in the /Digidesign/Plug-ins/ folder.
I can access Spectral Repair via the standalone application and RX Connect, but for me that's a bit of a PITA.

Is Spectral Repair an option as a plugin, or only within the standalone app?

RX 4 Spectral Repair

I/O Sub-Menu Greyed out on track inserts drop-down in PT11 Mac

Hi there,
I am on PT 11 (trying to switch over from PT10), on a 2011 imac w/ Mountain Lion and an Echo Audiofire12 firewire interface.

It works fine in PT10, but in PT11, I can't choose from my i/o menu to, say, use a piece of outboard gear as an insert like I would use a plugin. The i/o submenu is grayed out in the inserts dropdown on any given track.

However, inputs and outputs are still working on my interface, for example: I can choose any input of my interface on a given track to record a signal into the computer.

I've tried:
- Pressing N upon launch and selecting my interface as the soundcard
- Deleting all inputs and outputs in the i/o setup menu and restoring to defaults.

Please help! Here's a screenshot...

Hi,

Trying to upgrade today to PT 12. I've been a user for years and have never had trouble with AVID or iLok processes.

Today the process to upgrade hangs at the point where I have entered my iLok ID. I'd like to take advantage of the Eleven and Smack! offer.

Anyone else having a problem? Any ideas? I've sent a trouble report to CS.

It's a little before 8AM mountain time where I am. Maybe when everyone wakes up it will go better...

jamlab caused my computer to blue screen??

hey all,

i recently tried setting up my m-audio jamlab device on a Windows 10 Pro 32bit computer- when i plugged in the jamlab, may computer blue screened and restarted, the error was 'whea_uncorrectable_error'. i unplugged the jamlab and powered on, same result.

long story short, i have reset my BIOS to default settings and completely low level formatted my hard drive and tried to reinstall Windows- same error. so i'm starting to wonder if something happened to the computer hardware.

i looked into the 'whea' error and it's most commonly associated with hardware problems (CPU voltage spike, memory issues etc) or problematic Windows updates.

has anyone else run into this issue with the jamlab? i used it for years on my last computer and had no issues with it, and the current computer has been working fine until i plugged the jamlab in- i've never seen a computer blue screen from plugging in a USB device, but i guess anything is possible..

I've recently installed PT 12.3 and am using a Profire 2626 interface. I've installed the drivers up and everything's running fine except for that inputs 3 and 4 are shown to be SPDIF in Protools edit window. Inputs 1 and two and 5 thru 8 are analogue. I've checked out the Profire software mixer and they're all shown as analogue. Regards,

I've had an HDN system for years but never really used the card--too much trouble to move an HD I/O from the truck to the house, and monitoring with an HD I/O suddenly becomes a nightmare compared to the 002R I used under FW400.

I've been recording more at the house, so I finally took the plunge and bought an Omni. Here's just a little RTFM encouragement for any newcomers to the box like I was/am. On the Mixer tab in Hardware Setup HP stands for HeadPhones, not High Pass. Says so right there on page 37, but took me well over an hour to figure out why I could hear iTunes on the monitors but not the phones.

Onward and upward.

Had a weird thing happen tonight, I instantiated waves Hcomp on a vocal channel and in the mix window all of a sudden there was a gain reduction meter alongside the vu meter. I've seen that metering when watching vids with full HD system but never in native. When I closed the session and then reopened it the new feature was no longer there . Has this happened to anyone else? Makes me wonder…...

Further PT12/El Capitan issues

Pro Tools 12.3.1 and El Capitan: after several clean uninstalls then reinstalls of PT12.3.1, it seems that the Core Plugins are preventing the PT12 application from opening. Trashed the Core Plugins, and it all works perfectly well.

I registered a Student license of PT10 back in May of 2012. I think that gave me 4 Years of upgrades. I currently surrendered the 10/11 License for the 10/11/12 License and was able to install 12.3.1
Everything is fine right now but what will I need come May of 2016? And can I buy something now during the sales and register it in May 2016?

Pro Tools 11.3.2 missing from My Products

Hi everyone,

I've noticed that the latest PT 11.3.2 has disappeared from "My Products and Subscriptions", leaving me with PT 11.3.1 as the latest version. The same thing happened with the update for PT 12.3, no longer there.

Has anyone experienced something similar lately?

Hey guys, recently got a new Mac Pro, and used Setup Assistant to transfer over from my 2006 Mac Pro. That computer was running PT9 with the old 10.3.3 (9.0r3) drivers so PT9 is also on the new computer along with PT12 which I just installed. After the transfer was finished, I installed the 11.1.3 drivers on the new computer and followed the steps in this link (http://ift.tt/1Tm7sQi) to manually remove the 10.3.3 (9.0r3) drivers.

The good news is the 002 is working with Pro Tools (which I had to go back to since currently my 003's monitor pot emits nothing but scratchy, crackling, static noise whenever the pot is touched even the slightest, and the only time it doesn't is when it's rotated to the fully off counter-clockwise position).

However I cannot use the 002 as an output for my computer's audio. The Core Audio manager simply says Not Connected (HW not found). If I go into System Preferences -> Sound, I do see options for Avid 002 Rack and Digidesign HW (002). These also appear in Audio Midi Setup. However for the life of me I cannot get Core Audio to find the hardware.

Should be noted that "Avid 002 Rack" never appeared before on my old computer, only "Digidesign HW (002)". So this is new to me. Perhaps this is something to do with PT12/PT9 being on the same computer and the 11.1.3 drivers along with the should-be-deleted 10.3.3 drivers?

Tried restarting the computer and 002 many times.

Suggestions?

More PT 12 Update Clarifications

I too am trying to clarify:

Logged into my AVID account it states:
Pro Tools | Software with 12-Month Upgrade and Support Plan.
Perpetual Product >Time Period: Feb 11, 2015 - to - Feb 11, 2016

1. Does this mean I get the upgrade from my current 11.1 to 12
at no charge? Until Feb 11, 2016? Or I have commit within 30 days?
How does this time period interact with the end of December deadlines to choose a support plan?

2. Then, the next decision is the upgrade plan:
The $199 option is a one time yearly charge that keeps your options open for a year for while while your service plan is in place? And this keeps your license up to date for 1 year?

3. If one does the upgrade , it wipes out 11? So you run just 12 and 11 is gone?

4. Should I do some type of back up plan?
For the inevitable update glitches that will surface?
I will go back and read more of the back up system posts & cloning drives , not sure what that is or does...yet.

My current sessions are on an external Lacie drive.

I just had to delete a bunch of PT12 Avid plugins, because they were preventing PT12 from opening (just upgraded to El Capitan...) but now don't have a click track. Where can I re-download this particular plugin (Click II or an alternative)?

Pro Tools 11/ElevenRack setup for recording?

Hello,

I have problems to setup PT11 and ER to make guitar recordings.

In WIN 8.1/64 drivers for ElevenRack are installed and work with standalone editor. I use Roland Quad Capture USB interface and Allan&Heath ZED10FX as analog mixer. Quad Capture, ER and the A&H working standalone in WIN. When I open PT11 I can set QC to playback engine and I can play an imported audio backintrack but I have no ElevenRack in I/O settings.

Signal flow:
Guitar->ElevenRack->Allen&Heath->QuadCapture->Poweramp->passive studio monitors

What is wrong?

Hey everyone.

Let's say you've a five episode series and the studio recording your ADR do it all in one session as opposed to five different sessions.

So say the eps start at 01:00:00:00 ... Then they place ep two at 02:00:00:00 (rather than give you ep2 in place in a different session at 01:00:00:00).

Can you easily shift it all down?

I revealed all the playlists and tried highlighting the whole second hour and dragging it down to 01:00:00:00 but that didn't work.

As it stands , manually dragging every take down the timeline for five eps will take me a lot of time.

Does anyone have a workaround? Am I being stupid?

I'm sure this is a naive question, but I do voice over work, using only one track, so while I do a lot of editing at which Pro Tools is great, my usage is not very sophisticated or demanding.
My problem is that sometime, when my fingers are flying over the keyboard to get some editing task done, I somehow change the edit window so that it shows the clip gain line over the entire clip, anywhere from 3 minutes to 20 minutes in length. I do not know exactly what keys I mistakenly hit to get into this mode, nor how to get out of it.
Can anyone help me out of my ignorance?

Missing HD 12.3.1 HW driver installer - mac

Hi

I just authorized the HD subscription and downloaded all the installers, except the HD HW driver. I have the link in "my products" but pressing the link results in a "file not found" message.

Does anybody else have this issue or is it related to this download issue?

Building Studio/Need Video System

The Air Force Band of the West is building a recording studio/rehearsal facility.

One of the challenges we are facing is the design doesn't allow line of site for many of the rooms.

My solution is to create a video system so the musicians can see each other when needing isolation or I can see them.

Unfortunately, I don't know where to start.

Do any of you have experience?

Here are my needs: (I think)

3 portable TV’s with cameras or mounted cameras. (40-50 inch)

Small TV/Camera combo for each smaller room

Cameras for each room for general visibility?

rack mount double TV for studio visibility of the rooms.

Some sort of switch/router? (Route anything, anywhere in multiples.)

How many connections do I need in each room? BNC? Ethernet?

iMac Processor Compatibility - PT 11 to 12

Hi everyone

I have a late 2009 27" iMac with an intel core 2 duo processor. I'm running OSX 10.8.5 and PT11.1.2...all works fine.

I want to upgrade to PT12 but the minimum spec says an intel i5 processor is required.

I must confess to not knowing much about processors and whilst I found a post on here from someone wanting to know the difference between these two processors there were no replies.

Will I encounter problems with my current processor if I make the shift?

The logical side of my brain says not to upgrade if I do not meet the spec but others may know if my processor is actually above min spec?

In a couple of months I'll have WUP coming up for renewal and I have to ask - is it really worth it? I mean does Waves ever update plugins after they're out (barring bug fixes which I would think come out early on in a plugin's release)? Or is there something I'm missing with this?

Hey there,

Finally this month I decided to upgrade to 12 and got myself a perpetual license.

Everything went smooth moving from 11.2 to PT 12.3, same thing with 12.3.1

However after updating "application manager" to the latest version,
I keep getting a pop-up window telling me that "Support & Upgrades Expiring Soon",
which is kind of weird as I bought my license only a couple of weeks ago..

Am I missing something here, or is this some kind of bug?

HD12 annual vs perpetual and education plus Black Friday

I'm really confused and I hope somebody can help:

I own PT HD10 and I want to get HD12

1. Is the annual upgrade the same as the perpetual? I see perpetual license being mentioned for PT12 but bit for PT HD12. Does this mean they are different or are the the same?

2. Is there an educational version of PT HD12? I do also teach and would buy an educational version of HD12 but I only see educational versions of 12 (non-HD)

3. I'd like to take advantage of the Black Friday specials but they don't seem to have an HD12 Black Friday special. I see just the one $599 price. Am I wrong?

Things to consider when upgrading PT?

Hey Guys,

I'm quite new to this forum, so forgive me if I'm unaware of some rules, guidelines, functions etc.

I am currently running PT 8 LE (old - I know), and overall it suits my needs. However I understand that it is becoming more and more obsolete. so I'm considering upgrading to a newer version. Is it worth it for a small home studio?
I thought crossgrades were'nt available anymore, but I found one on Sweetwater to PT 12.
That version requires my hardware to have been bundled with PT LE to begin with. Since I'm using an 11R that I bought separately is there any way I can check if it's eligible or not?

And if I do decide to upgrade, either to 12 or another version newer than 8, what do I need to have in mind? I know that iLok is required for the newer versions, but I have no idea how that works... And will me sessions translate automatically to the new version?

If I decide on PT12, what can I do with my plugin library, since these are either VST or RTAS. I was actually considering getting rid of all of them for Waves Gold, since it seems to have everything I need. And I understand that it has AAX support.

A lot of questions, I know. But any help would be greatly appreciated.

SSD Question

I am not sure what thread to have posted this ion, so I hope it is not completely off topic. I use Pro Tools 8.

I use a SSD (solid state drive) as my main system disk where windows resides. I also have another new SSD drive and I am wondering if there is any advantage of using a SSD drive to capture my session files and raw track recordings?

Any thoughts?

WTB Soundminer For Mac

Craclking and warped sound during recording and playback

Hey guys! I REALLY need your help.

I am running the super old pro tools LE version 8 through an MBox 2 mini.
My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium.

Last month while I was recording I started to notice crackling. Weather it was in record ready or not. Playback and recording it was happening too. It started to get worse and worse until any play back sounds like a melted/warped tape.

I tried switching headphones in case that was any factor. It was not.
I tried restarting the computer
I tried getting a new MBox 2 mini thinking it was something to do with static and it was slightly better but not fixed.

I am out of ideas except for uninstalling the entire program and re installing it. This would run the risk of losing all of my previous songs. And I have hundreds. I am unsure if putting them on an external while I do this would matter or not.

I am aware it is an out of date system. But if I upgrade, all my music that is unfinished will become inaccessible through the new versions of pro tools. I need this to work so I can finish those songs and then I can upgrade.

Any explanation would be helpful and any ideas on how to correct this problem would be MOST welcome. I have deadlines I MUST meet this week and no recording program capable of what I need.

Do I really have to buy a 4 year old computer instead of a new i7 iMac?

I'm running an i7 Early 2011 MacBookPro with PT 12.3.1 and it's running fine. I have an issue with some slight crackles on playback, but I think it's an OS issue and not protools. When I run live 9.5 or Logic X, or DP 9 I do not have the audio playback issue however. I think it's something to do with core audio and Protools.
It even happened with PT 11 as well. My main studio mac pro 6 core trash can has no problems and running the same OS X 10.10.5 on both.

If I were you, you might wait on the iMac since Apple is expected to launch NEW macs early next year from what I am hearing. I am holding of because the new chips are twice as fast as a 4 year old mac and you will be able to load up more ram on the laptops and a ton on the iMacs especially. You might be taking a chance with an older mac and Avid won't support you with that. I have in the past run unqualified macs without a problem though.

BTW. You don't really need a 4K monitor either. Kind of nice, but overkill since you are not doing video. I have an old Cinema Screen 30" which I should update, but there are a ton of monitors I'll look at next lear. i also have an HD big screen in the control room anyway, so I don't need a 4K monitor. Unless you are pushing 4k I doubt you would see a difference. G

I want to mark a selected area and be able to display only the tracks that have clips in that area.

Working in post with hundred of tracks and a lot of episodes in the same project... This will really make it easy to select an area for one episode and then see the involved tracks only.
